If there was one word that can describe the hedgehog based solely on his striking appearance, it’d be “bold.” Sonic has led a life of being himself and taking his freedom in strides, never in one place for a long time, and certainly not one to embrace the hero stereotype just because. Because of his passion for freedom, it doesn’t need repeating that Sonic hates being constrained and can become restless overtime when he’s in a place for too long. Sonic is also passionate about justice for others, despising evil and prejudice in all its forms. Growing up as a freedom fighter, he’s more than willing to risk his life if it meant Mobians can live without fearing another attack from Dr. Eggman.
Despite his intense views on freedom and peace, Sonic is so laid back you wouldn’t be mistaken to assume he was joking. He sees his heroics as an opportunity to show off, his sassy quips feel they were ripped from a comic book, and saving the world is another Wednesday for him; for someone who’s practically a superhero in his home universe, Sonic’s coolness often comes off as cockiness and will rub people the wrong way. Sonic is always living in the present, and it’s only during times of great turmoil that his confident spirit breaks. Though he’s not known for cracking easily, never doubting himself or giving into despair.
Once someone gets past his ego and impatience, Sonic can turn out to be a true friend who never breaks promises or turns his back when someone’s in need. He never intends to leave them in the dust and even if he’s persistent about doing something on his own, Sonic realizes he can use a helping hand, too. He’s in touch with nature and can prove to be more insightful than his attitude lets on, seeing values that easily gets overlooked and gives genuine advice when his friends are at their lowest point. Sonic doesn’t pull any punches in competitions and even then rarely sees his rivals as true enemies, even forgiving some who would try to kill him.
In the end, Sonic is a hedgehog who runs where the wind takes him, never looking back as a force of positive change and free will.
Born on the planet Mobius, Sonic would become well acquainted with Dr. Ivo Robotnik when he among thousands of Mobians were kidnapped for experiments and using them for his Badniks. Rescued by freedom fighters Mighty and Ray, Sonic was inspired by their bravery to use his inherent high speed to join the fight against the terrible scientist. When Robotnik was scavenging the planet for the elusive Chaos Emeralds, Sonic beat him to the punch figuratively and literally on his first adventure, impressing a pink hedgehog along the way. He wouldn't know why he was hellbent on collecting the emeralds until he met Miles "Tails" Prower and Knuckles the Echidna, finding that Mobians have an affinity toward the Chaos Emeralds that allowed them to transform into their Super forms.
Mobius would only last another two years before Sonic, and other natives needed to leave for Earth, their planet suffering from the effects of Robotnik's tyranny. The blue blur's adventures were only beginning, crossing paths with the likes of The Chaotix, Rogue, and Shadow as he becomes more like his rescuers with a self-confident, never say die attitude on his new home. Sonic achieved superhero-like feats such as defeating the God of Destruction, saving the Earth from the Space Colony ARK, and defeating Neo Metal Sonic, a "super" form of one of his earlier foes Metal Sonic. However, his most impactful moments are when he helps others see the good and value in themselves, such as helping Shadow move on from his past and raising Emerl, who destroyed the Final Egg Blaster in his demise.
Now dubbing him Eggman, Sonic spent much of his adulthood taking life in stride while stopping whatever plot Robotnik cooked up next, forming close bonds with Blaze, Silver, and even his past self on his globe-trotting adventures. His adventures also spanning to other planets, Sonic allied with the Wisp after freeing them from slavery. Having wrapped up business with Infinite, Sonic stayed on Mobius Island to lend a hand in rebuilding whatever the Eggman Empire destroyed. However, the hedgehog was shaken by the prospect of Eggman succeeding. As such, Sonic has become weary lately as he believes he's the only one who can defeat Eggman, surpassing Mighty and Ray in his own right.
