Banner Personality.png

Wolf, being a notorious mercenary and space pirate throughout the Lylat System, is known for his ferocious and cruel nature. In order to achieve his goals, as well as fulfill his task as the leader of the most infamous group in Lylat, showcases ruthless tendencies and is unafraid of getting his hands dirty in the process. Combining these aspects with his notable intellect, and the fact that he is a professional space pilot – as equally proficient as his rival Fox McCloud, he is quite the force to be reckoned with and should never be underestimated or looked down on.

The most notable aspect of Wolf’s personality is that he has several traits of an anti-heroic nature. Stubborn in his pursuit of his goals, as well as having a rebellious streak can – at times, be seen as commendable. Wolf always prioritizes both his agenda as well as his Star Wolf team, and can be a team player or leader should the moment arise. Wolf is also capable of temporary alliances with individuals with conflicting interests to his own, so long as he still receives a benefit from the partnership. Furthermore, Wolf is direct about his opinions, and while this can reflect his cruelty, he will not resort to deception at any point; however due to his line of work, makes it clear that not all of his actions should be trusted. Wolf himself has a higher moral standard than most outlaw mercenaries, and this strange code of ethics has earned him trust and support with his allies.

Similar to Fox, he is quite the proficient leader and genuinely cares for his outlaw band; even though his demeanor is extremely rough around the edges. Wolf despises backstabbers and liars, to the point that he would dispose of such individuals by any means necessary. Wolf also has a distaste toward people defined by their greed, as well as tyrannical people who would take things too far to achieve their goals; especially if the aforementioned goal directly conflicts with the objectives of the outlaw leader himself.

When it comes down to his attitude toward those he considers rivals, it is a complicated relationship. He can acknowledge when someone – like Fox for instance, does something great (especially when it benefits Wolf), and even give a few words of encouragement. However, most of the time his stance towards people outside of his team is neutral at best and hostile at worst, depending on the situation. Wolf also tends to take a sarcastic and condescending approach to those that he considers wastes of time.

Only a select few (Fox included) have managed to earn his mutual respect. Wolf can prove himself an invaluable ally, sharing his wisdom and combat expertise to those he deems worth his limited patience. One should be wary however, as those who’ve provoked him intentionally, rarely – if ever, escape his sharp claws and violent nature long enough to tell the tale about the Infamous Outlaw of Sargasso.

Banner Backstory.png

Not much is known about Wolf O’Donnell’s past. There have been many false rumors and speculations prior to his becoming an outlaw. One such rumor is that he used to be a pilot for the Cornerian Defense Army, but it seems highly unlikely. However, many wonder how he achieved his leadership, combat, and piloting skills.

Wolf is infamous for the multitude of problems he’s caused throughout Corneria over the years. As a pirate leader, he often orchestrates ferocious attacks upon the Defense Army at Sector Z; seemingly to disrupt the flow of transportation for high value equipment and goods. Wolf has several charges to his name, from trespassing, larceny, treason, and theft. Because of his various felonies, Wolf has always been in contention with the Cornerian army – specifically with the Star Fox task force.

Before the events of the Lylat wars, both the Star Wolf and Star Fox teams displayed a bitter rivalry toward each other. Though after countless run-ins, they have developed a begrudging mutual respect – and on rare occasions, even make friendly remarks toward one another. Although their moralities, ideals, and goals often conflict with each other, which is unabated by Wolf being considered a primary suspect for the disappearance of Fox’s father – though he claims to have nothing to do with it, the two have been shown to put aside their differences during dire circumstances.

When the brilliant scientist Andross was exiled from his home plant, Venom – which was the event that began the Lylat Wars, he hired Wolf and his team to combat Star Fox. Wolf accepted the job, with his driving motivation being to settle the score with Fox and his team; so he can prove once and for all that he is the superior pilot. Not only that, but Wolf also enjoyed the idea of earning a large sum of money, as well as recognition from Andross himself for being the one to foil team Star Fox.

However, after several conflicts with Star Fox that resulted in multiple defeats for Star Wolf, it became clear that Andross’ plans were doomed to fail. Despite this failure, Wolf still benefited from the transaction, having gained more notoriety as well as hiring other outlaws and former members of Andross’ Army. Now having completed his own domain, that being the Sargasso Space Zone, he has gained respect and acknowledgement as Leader/Lord from fellow criminals, outlaws, and space pirates.

After forming a temporary truce with Fox McCloud, in order to stop a parasitic species known as Aparoids that plagued the Lylat system, Wolf has gained further admiration along with infamy. Despite his cooperation, he is still seen as the most wanted outlaw in the entirety of Lylat; and if he’s being honest, he likes it that way. Ever eager for the day he outmatches Fox and his team, Wolf continues to push the boundaries in order to become the most superior pilot throughout the galaxy.

Banner Trivia.png
  • Wolf was originally going to debut in the SNES game Star Fox 2, but the title was canceled in favor of Star Fox 64.

  • It is implied that Wolf doesn’t actually need his eye-patch and may just wear it for show or to dim the sight in one of his eyes, so he can watch his flight path and read his flight instruments at the same time; which is something pilots used to do in the early 1900s.

  • His surname, O'Donnell, is Irish in origin and it references the relevancy of wolves in Ireland. Wolves are extinct in Ireland, but were important to their culture and are significant to Irish mythology.

  • Physically compared to other pilots like Fox or Falco he is more buff and stronger.

  • His quote towards Fox "Can't let you do that, Star Fox." became an internet meme used for several shitposts on edited images.
