Sora is a young boy with a heart of gold, a typical Hero-type figure in bravery. Loyal to a fault, he risks his life even for those he barely knows. He is also one of those heroes that falls in the self-sacrifice boat, as he would give anything to save his friends or the people he cares about. Sora holds an upbeat and optimistic attitude throughout most of his series, with Kingdom Hearts III showing a more serious side to Sora. It is actually believed he had such an optimistic character due to holding Ventus’s heart within him for so long.
He has little tolerance for cowardice and selfishness, but is surprisingly quick to forgive those who have apologized for their mistakes. He doesn’t like to hold grudges, but would if it meant getting an apology from the opposing person- a learning lesson, reflection, not a forced thing. Though he is rather dense and wouldn’t realize his actions are for the better of himself and others, it ultimately has to do with his ever growing bond with his friends that keep him so positive minded. He holds a remarkable capacity to forgive those that did him and his teammates wrong, even those who clearly side with the darkness or just ooze evil vibes. At the end of the day, those who fell to darkness are just struggling hearts searching for a light source.
His mood can quickly flip when it comes to being sad, the influence others have on him is the big reason for this. Beast’s determination to save Belle and Hercules’ words of encouragement are a few examples of this.
He holds no resentment to those who did him wrong in the past, Riku a shining example. Upon finding him again he was forgiving of all the bad he had done, he was proud of Riku for passing the Mark of Mastery exam despite having failed it himself.
He has complete confidence in his abilities as a Keyblade Wielder, even going so far as to almost decline Yen Sid’s Mark of Mastery exam; he was so confident in his ability to fight. He can be seen as cocky and arrogant as a result of this, competitive and rather childish as well. Though he is a fair player, more often than not he would feel more pleased to have participated in a friendly competition.
He also has issues with mannerisms- such as how to act to an authority figure like Yen Sid or Queen Minnie. Though, this is more of the fact that he’s just dense, and means no disrespect. He acts like everyone is a friend, so at the end of the day, even those above him can forgive his ignorance.
Sora was born on a small island in a world known as Destiny Islands, living peacefully with his best friends, Riku and Kairi, as well as other residents of the island that include Tidus and Wakka (FF X) and Selphie (FF VIII). The focus group being Sora, Riku, and Kairi, the trio set out to build a raft so they can sail and explore more of what their world has to offer. The night before they would set off, they would question their existence in their own world, what if they were born in a different world? Were there even such things as other worlds out there? Sora and Riku in particular show a want for exploring worlds outside of their own.
The group split off only for darkness to ecase itself around their peaceful, beachy world. This is the event that would lead Sora to be given the iconic Keyblade to fend off the darkness and go in a search for his friends, who were lost in the darkness. Upon being thrust out of his world, he would find himself in Traverse Town, bumped into Donald Duck and Goofy, who were searching for a Key their King had forewarned them to find. The iconic trio set out on an adventure to search for all of their friends, and stop the forces of darkness, their ultimate goal was to open Kingdom Hearts, an entity that would grant any person who opens its doors the power to rule over all of the worlds and its people.
The trio of Junior Heroes set out on a multitude of adventures, the rescue of Kairi, the search for Riku and the King- a year-long coma to regain the memories that were manipulated by a witch that happened to be Kairi’s Nobody- a vessel that yields no heart, and shouldn’t have emotion or a will- named Namine. The plan was to manipulate Sora’s memories so they can use him to overthrow the Organization XIII. Of course, the plan was ultimately destroyed, and Namine put Sora, Donald, and Goofy into Memory Pods in order to fix the damages she had caused to their memories. After the year, Sora and the gang awaken in Twilight Town, and set out to search for the King and Riku.
The events of their next adventure play out rather similarly to their past travels to the worlds, eliminating darkness as they went. The final world in which they would team up with Riku (in the form of Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness), Kairi (forced out of her world by Axel, an ex-member of the Organization), and King Mickey to take down Xemnas, the Nobody of Xehanort- the catalyst that set the series into motion. In the end, Riku and Sora went up against Xemnas alone. Together, they took him down, sealed Kingdom Hearts, and were thrown into the Realm of Darkness, presumably eternally stuck. However, at the shores of the melancholy realm, Sora and Riku find a letter in a bottle from Kairi. Her light opened the way back to the Light Realm- back to Destiny Islands- where the group happily celebrated their trip back home.
